“While I may not have a long tenure yet, my passion for architecture has been with me for a long time. “The architecture and construction industry are undergoing a significant shift towards sustainability. There’s a clear recognition that our practices have a major impact on the environment. This has led to a positive change in attitudes and a drive to implement sustainable solutions.
The industry is adapting by embracing new technologies, utilizing recycled materials, and focusing on energy-efficient designs. These advancements help us meet the ever-evolving sustainability standards and client expectations.”
Why Sustainability Matters
“Incorporating sustainable practices into design is not just a trend; it’s a necessity. Sustainable buildings offer a multitude of benefits. They reduce our carbon footprint, conserve resources, and even improve the health and well-being of occupants through better air quality and natural light utilization.
Communicating the value of sustainability to clients is a key part of my role. I explain the long-term benefits, not just environmental but also financial, as sustainable buildings often have lower operational costs.”
Putting Sustainability into Practice
“At Archetype Cambodia, we actively integrate sustainability efforts into our projects. This involves various approaches, such as:
- Prioritizing locally-sourced, recycled, or recyclable materials.
- Designing for energy efficiency through proper insulation, natural ventilation, and strategic use of windows.
- Implementing water-saving fixtures and rainwater harvesting systems.
The key lies in striking a balance. We strive to create aesthetically pleasing and functional spaces while adhering to our sustainability goals. By carefully selecting materials and employing innovative design techniques, we can achieve both beauty and responsibility.”
